July 7th, 1749 Charlemagne, Cantonese Empire The Emperor, John, walked over to the balcony over looking the capital of his empire. Through conquest and diplomacy, the Empire has one of the largest territorial masses in the world, and controlled much of the worlds trade. However, the Emperor was wary of the Dutch to the northeast of him, and the Spaniards to the south, who posses Asian colonies close to his own in Indonesia. He was confident in the Imperial Navy to protect the Imperial Dominions, but he knew of the Dutch Kingdom’s desire to assert dominance over Asia. At every turn, the Empire needed to block the Dutch and control trade routes there.

July 7th, 1749 Frederick I, Kingdom of Sweden
King Frederick sits in the palace of Stockholm, an old man left with no energy. He was both fortunate and unfortunate to remember the early 1700's when the Swedish Empire under his father Charles I was at its peak and its armies were the match of any in the world. On his fathers death and the inevitable peace treaty with Russia which gave them a lot of traditional Swedish territory Frederick tried his best to bring some glory back to the empire with little success. He now sits in an empty palace his children all having died before him and facing the end of his ancestors line on the throne.
However there is one glimmer of hope and that is his younger brother William VIII the Landgrave(lord) of Hesse-Kassel a great military leader and diplomat. If he could just convince the Riksdag of the Estates (assembly of Nobility, Clergy and Burghers who took over much of the ruling of the kingdom after Charles I) that they go with William. Then maybe the house of Hesse-Kassel would not end so soon!

July 7th, 1749 St. Petersburg, Russia Peterhof Palace
Emperor Peter III lays on his deathbed. The doctors say that he has only months to spare in his reign until he shall return to God Almighty. In his stead, his heir Catherine manages the affairs of state as Regent. It is not long until she is assured to be crowned Empress. It is early in the morning when she gets up. Her first task of the day, one which she has assigned herself, is to walk the gardens on the grounds and clear her head for the day to come.
Below the hill where the great Emperor lies inches from death, the city first meekly, then boldly springs to live. Market stalls open, bakers start to craft their wares. Palace Square sees first a trickle of people milling in and out of the area on their way to the open stalls for trade, or to meet their employers. As the sun begins to peek its golden head over the land and Baltic Sea, masses of people begin to enter and leave the square. The first carriages of the day start about the square running to and fro for their quarry's engagements.
Much like her capital city, the Empire is awakening and under the leadership of the next great monarch, there shall be even greater prosperity and revolutionary spirit from its leadership than ever before.
Like a resounding cry, what shall be heard across the lands of Eurasia shall be "For Faith! For the Motherland! For the Emperor! God is with us!"

Madrid, Spain
The King dies leaving the Spanish throne to his fourth son. The first son died of a hunting accident only a year ago, the second of fever, and the third at childbirth.
King Santiago a young man who never expected to succeed the throne is now King.
King Santiago was an odd man who preferred merchants as well as lawyers to aristocrats and was self-taught in England rather than schooled in traditional means, a man who didn't really believe in god and a man who loved vice whether drink, gambling or anything else a libertine could think of.
Would he rule the Kingdom of Spain the same way as his father as an autocrat or would the Whiggish principles he learnt in England drive his decisions.

William VIII arrives in the capital and goes to the palace to meet his brother after receiving a cryptic message. When he arrives Frederich sets out his plan; "My brother you know better than anyone that I have not achieved much in my reign, no don't interrupt it is true, I have not lived up to the great history of our house but I will make sure that our future is more secure. I have no children and if I die the riksdag will chose a new king, probably Adolf Magnuson who is in favour at the moment, I wish to take the initiative and abdicate in favour of you to give you a chance to right my wrongs! I will announce it in the next week or two but I wanted to ensure that you are prepared for the inevitable struggle. Gather your allies and be ready to rule!"

The aged monarch was once known for her beauty is now noted for her expanses of energy to the point that even her most youthful of ministers and guards have trouble keeping up with their 67 year old charge. The only thing that seems to slow the queen down is her family as she is known to halt in the middle of government business to call upon her now 4 adult children to ask them what they wish to have for dinner.
Huis ten Bosch palace
Queen Wilhelmina is sitting at her favourite garden table looking over Foreign Affair reports as her two grandkids are playing with a pair of peachicks that we're a gift from the Shah of Perisa. As the queen sees the update from her minister in Munich she drops her glasses , which thanks the chain just dangle around her neck. Wilhelmina turns to the Stadholder of her government, the Baron van Middleburg. "That old fool wishes to plunge the continent into another war. What can we do Middleburg?" Before allowing the poor man to offer suggestions the Queen stands up and walks over to a map of the world. "Issue a response to the Kaiser's actions denouncing Austria's threatening of peace in Europe. Order are traders to avoid all Habsburg ports and offer compensation to those willing to buy war materials headed to Austrian territories. If our letters don't halt the Kaiser's aggression then we will strangle their trade. Have the Mediterranean halt all aggression against the Barbary coast and prepare their men for a proper conflict. Have the Admiralty in prepare a fleet to set sail to seize Cuba if the need arises.

September 12th, 1749 Charlemagne, Cantonese Empire Upon seeing the response from the Dutch Queen on the Invasion of Germany by the Holy Roman Emperor, Emperor John decided to issue his own proclamation. The following message was made publicly available: “If Austria continues to threaten peace on the continent, they shall be dealt with mercilessly. I suggest they stop their buildup along the German border.” The Emperor also asks for half of the Imperial Army, 150,000 men to be prepared for war, and the Mediterranean Fleet has been mobilized and sailed off the coast of Malta. Further more, the Dominion Guards, protectors of the colonies, are activated in South America, totaling 15,000, with 10,000 having formal army training and 5,000 being militia pulled up from the citizenry. The new King prepares to rule his way with Whiggish principles.
The first thing the King does is call a Council of nobles, merchants, and lawyers who will help reform the Kingdom of Spain for modern times. The Church is very angry they are not included.
In private, the King holds a party at the new palace and is offered some white powder from the colony in Columbia. It is the best thing the King ever tried and quickly becomes popular in high society.
But on a serious note, the King now needs to marry and produce an heir as he only has a daughter Sarah in England out of wedlock.

The King returns home from the peace conference to many proposals from the Council of Madrid.
Proposal One: Tax and Trade Reform
The proposal from the merchants and members of trades is that all tariffs be lowered and replaced with an income tax. The King signs a decree reducing tariffs and duties to 1% for all countries except the Netherlands and Russia which will be set at 0.5%. Import quotas will be removed and restrictions lifted on foreign ships in Spanish ports.
Proposal Two: Religious Toleration
A philosopher proposes that all religious beliefs be tolerated and that all restrictions on religious minorities be lifted. The King signs this proposal into law.
Proposal Three: Reform of the Armed Forces
Looking at the model of the Royal Navy the King decides to reform the armed forces. First, all new officers will have to attend the new Royal University. Second, all officers and NCO's will now be appointed based on merit. A Major also suggests setting up an Admiralty. Thirdly the army will become a professional standing army.
While there is a talk of the creation of a Parliament debate rages over what its powers should be, who can vote, and if there should be a house of nobility.
In non-Council news, the King funds the creation of powder farms in the New World.
